Fighting Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 says that “For God did not give us the spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love and self-discipline.” There are numerous places in the Bible where God tells us “Do not fear…” Even when the angels appear, they say, “Do not fear…”

What is fear?
Fear is not from God. Fear is from the devil. Fear is contrary to Faith. The two work on the same frequency…except God needs your faith to work and the devil needs your fear to work. Fear is an access point for the devil. If you don’t fear, then there isn’t any type of deception or blinders that the devil can cause. Fear hinders your blessings. Fear is faith in Satan.

The devil’s power is limited. He can only use certain tools to trick us, and fear is his biggest tool; however, God already gave us dominion over the world and in Luke 10:19, Jesus says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” Jesus already defeated death, so there is nothing for us to be afraid of.

Fear incubates guilt, torment, and paralysis. Fear contaminates faith; the two cannot both work in the same place. There is no lukewarm area; either you are faithful, using God’s power or you are fearful, allowing Satan to destroy your power. You must make sure that your words and thoughts are not full of fear. Control your thoughts and words, and make them faith-based and not fear-based.

How do we fight Fear?
Fight fear with the truth! The truth is God’s Word. You can always counter Satan’s lies with truth. God cannot lie, and He says that His words will not come back empty. If your fear is lack of money, read Deuteronomy 28, and meditate on those promises. If protection is a problem, read Psalm 91. If the devil is telling you that you cannot have peace, read John 16:33, and tell Satan that He is a liar. The Bible is truth and it is a weapon for us to use.
Here are more ways that you can fight fear:

  1. Gear up and use your warfare weapons, which are specific verses in the Bible that you can plunder the devil with anytime he tries to insert lies into your mind.
  2. Spend time with the Lord in prayer, reading His Word, hearing His word, and fellowshipping with other Christians makes you stronger in faith and trust. Commit to praying and talking to God several times a day. Block out 15 to 30 minutes of time to read the bible, and as time goes on, lengthen the amount of time.
  3. If you cannot physically get to a church, you can watch most churches on the Internet and watch free Podcasts from their Web sites. My favorites are: Bishop Eddie L Long, Pastor Creflo Dollar, Joyce Meyer, and Joel Osteen. They all feed me food for my soul.
  4. Praise the Lord. Praise confuses the enemy…especially when there is something going wrong in your life, and you still praise the Lord.

Block Satan’s entry into your life by abolishing any type of fear. God loves you. God chose you. You are God’s child and He is here for you…have faith. Come back tomorrow when we tackle Fear’s prodigy…worry!

Many blessings,
Trina

  1. I love what you have written! It seems that fear has taken over so many of us lately. Our faith & trust in the Lord is what will get us through & restore peace in our lives. He gets me through each day – I know everything that happens is part of his plan & there is a reason behind everything that we go through. God Bless!

Yes…with the economy as it is and the media constantly bombarding us with the dismal details of our nation, it is easy for fear to sneak in our thoughts, without us knowing it. As long as we seek God, obey God, and trust Him, we have nothing to fear. If God is for us, who can be against us?
