Whacking Worry

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Yesterday, we talked about Fear being a debilitating emotion that serves the devil. Fear counteracts faith and paralyzes you giving Satan an access point to wreak havoc in your life. Without fear, Satan’s hands are tied. If he cannot get you to fear anything, then he cannot deceive or trick you with lies. We counteract Satan’s lies with God’s Truth…His Words in the Bible.

Today we discuss Worry. As a verb, worry means to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts; fret. As a noun, worry is defined as a cause of uneasiness or anxiety; trouble. When concerns, problems, and issue constantly bombard your mind, your faith diminishes, and your confidence in God decreases. When this occurs, you’ve created an entry point for Satan to enter your spirit.

Worry can:

  • Damage your health
  • Cause whatever you are worrying about to consume your thoughts, taking your mind off of God
  • Disrupt your productivity because you constantly think about what you are worried about
  • Cause you to act negatively towards others, effectively isolating you from others
  • Reduces your ability to trust in God

Do not let worries about tomorrow affect your relationship with God today.

To alleviate worries:

  1. Pray.
  2. Study God’s Word to build your faith and confidence in God.
  3. Obey God’s Laws.
  4. Plan. Careful planning includes thinking ahead about your goals, tasks, and schedules, and seeking God’s guidance for the plan (Proverbs 16:3, 9).
  5. Speak God’s Word to combat worry and fear.
